Editor:  This could just as easily gone on the Education page but it seems to have more to do with out of control Arizona government than actual education.

This post is taken from MCRC Briefs this morning.  It's in response to a prior post from a guy who was complaining about a number of things including education funding and the "fact" that if teachers get paid such low salaries, it means they are worth no more than those low salaries!  Ridiculous, of course!  This post is a response from Phil Mason, one of the few in Arizona (now, we think, Colorado) who has the inside track on education funding and isn't afraid to put out the facts.  Many prefer not to believe the facts when it comes to politics.  That doesn't change those facts.  Mason has laid this all out for AFA in the past and facts are just facts.

Longtime AZ Activist, Phil Mason: Disingenuous?? Let’s talk truth here. A lie is intentionally leading others to believe a false narrative. Using that as the foundation of a serious discussion, the people that have created low teacher pay and any "crisis", is the monopolistic policies of the district school bureaucracy.

While they continually cry wolf about low funding, their total revenue stream has grown to the highest levels in history. There are only two sources that are reliable when coming to the real FACTS about education funding  - The non-partisan Arizona Auditor General and the non-partisan Joint Legislative Budget Committee. Both of those sources clearly lay out the two decade track record of school superintendents intentionally diverting funds from the Classroom (Teacher Pay). School leaders NEVER talk about their total revenues, in fact, they do not even list their total revenues. Between constant increases in property taxes, grants, and a myriad of other indirect (non-tax) huge sources of revenue, they are living on an all-time high in dollars. The number of certified administrators and classified managers has proliferated in the same time period that those very bureaucrats have assailed the legislature for low teacher pay. Supt of Public Instruction Diane Douglas knows this and spoke forcefully on those facts when running for office, but has not maintained the strength necessary to oppose those destructive policies once in office.

The incontrovertible facts bring one to the truth that the more money the district bureaucrats receive, the larger percentage of those funds they divert away from the classroom and teacher pay. The Auditor General clearly states that this trend has been unbroken year after year since 2001. It is time for Superintendent Douglas to return to what she knows is the truth - Tax increases are not the answer, requiring school districts to prioritize funding to the classroom is the only rational solution. Mason is a former AzRA officer, former AZGOP official, and long-time GOP PC.

The saying "the devil is in the details" always runs true. People look for what they want, but then receive word of ... "first you have to vote for it to know what is in it" !!!!!!!!!!!!! Citizens are misled by political forces for a self-interest gain, not the gain of We the People. Much of this was diverted to pay for Obama's Common Core implementation and equipment. In Arizona K-12 education is funded by a mix of local (millage approvals), state and federal money that varies by year.  http://www.raisingarizonakids.com/2015/03/public-school-funding-how...

The incontrovertible facts bring one to the truth that the more money the district bureaucrats receive, the larger percentage of those funds they divert away from the classroom and teacher pay. The preceding statement is True as a result of those in thee Legislature not putting strings on the budgets they pass and Prop 123 is just one more example of this, the GOP at the Direction of Gov. Ducey with Sec. of Treasury Dewit objecting to Prop 123 misled the voters into believing it would give raises to teachers and when some of us asked them if they were going to put a section in the Prop to guarantee Teachers a Real Raise they replied that the Districts said they'd do it so they didn't want to force them to, any elected official that believed that or voted to put Prop 123 on the ballot shouldn't be Re Elected, I do agree that Supt. Douglas hasn't performed as expected and I've confronted that at public meeting, but the GOP Legislators are the ones who have and continue to pass Common Core Like Bills and others giving more power to the Gov. Appointed Board like SB 1469 at the Direction, if you wonder how this happens ask your Senator or Representative how they voted on PROP 123 and remember DeWit opposed openly as did I and a few others but those in the Legislature did what they were told to do by Establishment, gosh not much different than in DC, and Supt. Douglas has had little if any aide from any of them and even threatened by the Gov. with a recall if she objected to Dr. Wards amending HB2184 as I was told and believe to be true, Promises made by our AZ Senators & Represntatives have been Broken as usual and hopefully the Voters in 18 will give all those Incumbents what they deserve.

Phil Mason laid all this out to the higher ups from Mingus Union High School in Cottonwood a couple of years ago.  They were there to present their reasons for Cottonwood to pass a bond.  I'll never forget how upset they were when Phil presented his case and asked many questions they couldn't answer. Eventually, they picked up their paperwork full of lies, said they would not remain there and be 'Insulted" and walked out. Since then my question has been who was really insulted? My answer to that is the Taxpayer!

"One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors." - Plato. Stand firm, stand strong to defeat this evil.

You got that right! .  I'll never understand why people like to give their power away. I guess it's just laziness.

It's also the implementation of inalienable rights that government made superior over our unalienable rights which are "creator given" in our Declaration of Independence. Information is dangerous to those who want to enslave us. I love my country .. but I fear my government.

If the Voters would do the research required similar to studying for a test in school maybe they'd get better results than we do in America or AZ for that matter. I don't support the Higher taxes or funding for schools as it's proven throwing $$$$$s at it don't work, however I also don't like the GOP Establishment trying to blame just one person for all the troubles in Education when there's more than enough to go around and especially with our AZ Legislators.  Find the real answers and then find someone to support who isn't afraid of them or on a Career Path in politics and we might just be able to Save Our Nation & State. Remember the Voters chose these people to run things without doing the research necessary to make a good decision and as time has proven Empty Promises never work.

What did it for me was THIS

The California State Lottery, also known as the California Lottery, began on November 6, 1984, after California voters passed Proposition 37 (1984)|Proposition 37, the California State Lottery Act of 1984, authorizing the creation of a lottery. The first tickets were purchased on October 3, 1985.

The Hype that got it passed was: Pass this and schools will never have to ask for money again.

It passed. Two years later, almost EVERY school district had a bond issue on the ballot

THis will reveal my age, but I recall my high school Kingman AZ .. we had a principal, he had a secretary, there was a School Nurse, teachers and Bus drivers and two janitors PERIOD   Now there are all kinds of Counselors and "Technical Support"

Government at all levels is similar to the movie The Blob, always taking and growing endlessly and no end in sight, needs to be frozen and then shrunk. God Bless You; Van

My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government.

The best in books to make every conservative start thinking in new ways about America and the world being controlled by the Obama Administrations AND Republicans and Democrats.  Some surprises are in store for those who look!

Suppose the earth and its inhabitants exist in order to identify just what causes mankind continually to suffer so many troublesome problems and afflictions.
