In light of the darkness that surrounds the recent case of the “alleged” raping of a 14 year old Maryland student in a school bathroom, we parents are facing a new reality … but why? Bad parenting, self esteem issues, peer group pressures, no its because of educational fault lines in the foundations of our unique American opportunity.
Our Statue of Liberty calls out … "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!" Such are the words that American poet Emma Lazarus (1849–1887) wrote in 1883 "The New Colossus" to raise money for the construction for the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty. But what was once a call for labor in the “industrial revolution” and for economic growth, has now become the reason for unabated illegal immigration as the liberal left calls for a “migration agenda” for a borderless nation. Yet it is our own Supreme Court that has allowed for ANY illegal to get a “free education” at the behest of our own dollars … and Medicaid health care benefits.
Our new reality within education falls back on ONE ISSUE. In June 1982, the Supreme Court issued a decision in Plyler v. Doe. This one landmark decision holds that states cannot constitutionally deny students a free public education on account of their immigration status. By a 5-4 vote, the Court found that any resources which might be saved from excluding undocumented children from public schools were far outweighed by the harms imposed on society at large from denying them an education. We now became the educator for the world ... regardless of the financial burden placed upon the taxpayers.
The Court struck down a municipal school district's attempt to charge illegal immigrants an annual $1,000 tuition fee for each illegal alien student to compensate for the lost state funding. The Court decision found that the school district had no rational basis to deny children a public education based on their immigration status, given the harm the policy would inflict on the children themselves and society as a whole.
The court said that “by denying these children a basic education, we deny them the ability to live within the structure of our civic institutions, and foreclose any realistic possibility that they will contribute in even the smallest way to the progress of our Nation.” Our national moral fiber and civil institutions are being shredded when it is an illegal act to enter America in the first place.
The Supreme Court based its ruling on the 14th amendment that says
“No State shall … deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.” Under this provision, the Court held that if states provide a free public education to U.S. citizens and lawfully present foreign-born children, they cannot deny such an education to undocumented children without “showing that it furthers some substantial state interest.” That “state interest” today is a common sense security for our children while at school. Isn’t that why we have “drug-free zones”, and “gun free zones” around schools in the first place??
Is a child’s security at risk from illegals in our schools? Most don't care, nor know the consequences of it. Yet they say they need more cash for education don’t they. So what are we getting for those dollars, falling graduation rates, and lower scores at best. Add to that the fact that educating undocumented school children reduces the quality of education for other students. It costs more in education dollars because they are put in remedial classes just to understand our English Language and terms, and most never graduate at all.
Our schools are venerable places for violence from Islamists, and those who disregard our laws by unlawful entry into the USA. Today that societal “harm” is well known, but by a different set of criticisms. All of society is harmed when laws no longer apply to any illegal children who grow to adulthood in the bathrooms of our schools … and after a 14 year old is subject to the kind of sexual violence that may happen. The time has come to face that “new normal” from the liberal statist left .. and defeat it.
The key of information … is that a knowledge learned … of what they represent, they pontificate, and the ideology they indoctrinate in our school systems. Where is that common sense today among the judiciary and the mayors of sanctuary cities? There is a consequence for such actions and we all will pay for it with the cost of a child's youth being robbed … by political correctness and arrogance of those who cannot see the Truth of facts. Evil doesn’t change its ways, it evolves them to defeat a Godly goodness.
