Its surprising how much you can accomplish if you don't care who gets the credit
[Editor: We don't often find much to post from The Hill since most of their writers are establishment with a liberal perspective. Every once in a while, we do find a nugget. They are right on this! And for Rep. Trent Franks to write it and then post it on his FB page is something fairly new. He's been under McCain's thumb since he was forced aside so Flake could get that Senate seat. Welcome back, Rep. Franks. Maybe you will be running for the seat McCain now holds? That would be perfect irony!]
ObamaCare is the public policy equivalent of the Hindenburg, and the U.S. Senate has now failed to pass even the feeblest effort to repeal it.
President Donald Trump is exactly right. It is time for America to abolish the 60-vote Senate rule that forced the healthcare bill into the once-a-budget-year "reconciliation process" controlled by the "Byrd" rule which does not allow room for broad, lateral negotiation and subject matter inclusion that are so critical to achieving 50 percent plus one in a parliamentary setting. Did you know that ObamaCare could never have been repealed and replaced within the confines of the present Byrd rule? Did anyone but senators?
Mr. Trump is extremely astute to recognize the 'senseless 60,' Senate rule to be the primary culprit responsible for turning the U.S. Senate into the fundamentally dysfunctional institution it has become.
Perhaps the president was paying attention in the last election cycle when then Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said (when he was assuming Hillary Clinton would become president and Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) would become majority leader): "The country can't be run this way, where nothing gets done." ... "Unless after this election there is a dramatic change to go back to the way it used to be" (before the "no-debate stealth filibuster") "the Senate will have to evolve as it has in the past" ... "But it will evolve with a majority vote determining stuff. It is going to happen" (emphasis mine), meaning that the majority, not 60 votes, would rule.
After such unequivocal statements, to predicate America's future on the hope that Democrats will suddenly be seized with an epiphany of fair play toward Republicans and not follow through with Mr. Reid's plan when given the chance, is to risk the survival of this republic on a hope that has never manifest (sic) in the past.
Alexander Hamilton, in Federalist 22, warned posterity that a supermajority construct in parliamentary settings, except in the rarest of circumstances (i.e. amending the Constitution), would mean that "smaller numbers will overrule the greater...and destroy the energy of government". [We have seen this happen over and over. In the most recent example, ONE MAN, McCain, controlled the healthcare bill! Yes, that was a 50% +1 vote, but you get the point. Most in Congress would not have ever done such a thing, based on a hatred so strong that he was willing to hurt America to try to trap Trump. That is a sickness that can't be cured.]
The only thing lacking is having McCain's head poking through next to McConnell!
Excellent article. I sure hope Franks wrote this from his heart and not to get elected again. When one party refuses to use common sense and makes it clear "resistance" is their primary motive, cutting off their own noses to destroy the president and the country, this is the only thing that makes sense. Where but the republican party, and I speak about the local AZGOP and other district committees, does it allow the minority to control the vote? This foolishness of the 2/3s vote is unconstitutional and every party apparatus should get rid of it even if it means changing the bylaws or the charter or whatever document sets this up.
Records of those in office matter and we didn't have one Incumbent out campaigning for Trump, but now some seem to be for him especially in Districts that Voted over whelming for Trump, the GOP has raised the Debt Ceiling, continued funding of Planned Parenthood, passed continuing resolutions CRs which allow the Government under Obama to do just what it wanted and refused publicly to deal with the Johnson Act when asked to do so along with AZ Land Restoration and so much more and some wonder if this is about Re Election of course it is, and the GOP isn't helping Pres. Trump other than voting with him when they know they have just the right stooges to vote against say Repeal of Obamacare so they can do the song and dance of how they all tried. I have no intention of voting for Incumbents at any level in AZ, but to be clear I won't vote for the Socialist Democrats as well, Please Check Records before supporting these RINO GOP Office Holders.

You are right about that, Clair, but AZ did not go "overwhelmingly" for Trump with his paltry 4 point margin. Should have been 10 or more. I hold AZGOP/McCain shenanigans accountable for that. You are right, none of our elected Congress people verbally supported Trump, not even Salmon who was leaving so did have anything to lose.
The reason they don't support Trump is a simple one they don't support the US Constitution and the American Citizens as well, they support the GOP Elite Party and Big Money period, I'm hoping those who are active will finally see thru these Lying pieces or work and Vote all of them Out, but realize I've been hoping and fighting for that for years now and so far with no success as proven by those in State office doing some of the same things done in DC and then get re elected recall Prop 123 put up by the GOP office holders and lied about results and still in office and everyone just forgets and moves on voting for them yet again, as long as they know they can depend on this type of support no matter what they do they'll keep doing it, it's the fault of the so called activist who do it for the sake of party unity, well how's it working for you now?
God Bless You; Clair VAN Steenwyk
"We the people are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution." - Abraham Lincoln
The People have the Ballot Box to Remove these Incumbents and don't exercise their Right to do so, therefore don't believe they will in the future as most just to busy with video games, sports etc. and those who are active are more concerned about backing a winner than someone who'll keep their Oath as proven by the Long List of Incumbents and don't see any change coming soon sorry to say as most in Office are Perverted.
God Bless You; Van
They're all in One Party just use two different titles to keep the masses under control and give some sense of a False Hope during campaign seasons as demonstrated by the results as all can now hopefully clearly see.
God Bless You; Van
