After a group of Republicans nearly scuttled the Obama trade effort last week by voting against a procedural rule dictating the debate terms for the trade bill, House leadership is pushing back.

National Journal reports that House leadership has removed three of the dissenting members from the GOP whip team.

Reps. Rep. Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), Rep. Steve Pearce (R-NM), and Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ) have been removed from the whip team after they sided with GOP rebels to vote against a rule governing debate on a trade bill, according to sources close to the team.

The repercussions come as House Republicans prepare for another procedural vote to bring back Trade Adjustment Assistance — a key portion of the Obama trade effort to pass Trade Promotion Authority (TPA), which would grant the president fast-track authority to negotiate trade deals — as late as July 30.

[Editor: to quote one of our very astute members: "Free trade… right. Because freedom is always crafted in secret by those who stand to benefit most from whatever is being done, and by posting armed guards at the door to make sure no one else sees what’s going on."   Think about this.  Doesn't this sound more like blackmail or extortion to you?]

How many of the AZ delegation voted to re-elect Boehner as Speaker? That vote was the most important indicator of future actions by our elected representatives. No conservative voter wanted Boehner re-elected. Did our so-called conservative representatives represent our strong repudiation of Boehner? Sorry, no more excuses -- either they represent the people who elected them or they don't.

Only the Republicans voted for Boehner. );-[

Please note that Representative Paul Gosar did NOT vote for Boehner!

You are right.  Good for Gosar.

Right on Barbara!  Boehner should have been dumped long ago, but too many have been corrupted already!  The problems do not lie in or with Arizonans - although not exactly 100% pure - are so much better than many others.

It's a long hard road we've chosen to be on.

Stick with it.

Lew ...

Part-time conservatives are no longer good enough. I agree AZ is better than many other states, but this state is turning purple because so many disheartened Republicans see no reason to vote. A strong conservative presidential candidate would certainly help turn the tide.

Why is it always the Republicans who try to cater to the so-called "independents" ... WHO ONCE WERE Republicans?  Because they know that catering to Democrats is a lost cause, and the Republicans tell them "I won't hit you again .. I promise" !!

The "promises" of the Republican party MEAN NOTHING, as exemplified by those who vote for Obamatrade and along with Boehner and McConnell. We need change from the INSIDE ... to get rid of RINO's like Robert Graham, McCain, McConnell, Boehner, Flake, Schweikert, and Franks. They all smell like socialist Democrats to me.

If I were Trent Franks, I would consider this a badge of honor.

i agree, i was surprised to see his name on the list

Here is how our AZ Representatives voted today (note Schweikert and Franks) to give Boehner and Ryan until July 30th to buy more votes for Obamatrade:
Arizona
Aye D Kirkpatrick, Ann AZ 1st
Aye R McSally, Martha AZ 2nd
No D Grijalva, Raúl AZ 3rd
No R Gosar, Paul AZ 4th
No R Salmon, Matt AZ 5th
Aye R Schweikert, David AZ 6th
No D Gallego, Ruben AZ 7th
Aye R Franks, Trent AZ 8th
Aye D Sinema, Kyrsten

talk about strange bedfellows on this vote!!!  LOL

McSally votes with the Dems most of the time.....  what a disappointment she is.... no less than I expected but it was sure hard to make the "R"s understand that there is something worse than an Democrat and that is a  Repub hat votes with the Dems the majority of the time..... (she is big time beholding to Boehner so don't expect that she will do any different from here on out!)

I didn't waste my time even commenting on her.
