Its surprising how much you can accomplish if you don't care who gets the credit
Beginning on Jan. 1, prostitution by minors will be legal in California. Yes, you read that right.
SB 1322 bars law enforcement from arresting sex workers who are under the age of 18 for soliciting or engaging in prostitution, or loitering with the intent to do so. So teenage girls (and boys) in California will soon be free to have sex in exchange for money without fear of arrest or prosecution.
This terribly destructive legislation was written and passed by the progressive Democrats who control California's state government with a two-thirds "supermajority." To their credit, they are sincere in their belief that decriminalizing underage prostitution is good public policy that will help victims of sex trafficking. Unfortunately, the reality is that the legalization of underage prostitution suffers from the fatal defect endemic to progressive-left policymaking: it ignores experience, common sense and most of all human nature — especially its darker side.
The unintended but predictable consequence of how the real villains — pimps and other traffickers in human misery — will respond to this new law isn't difficult to foresee. Pimping and pandering will still be against the law whether it involves running adult women or young girls. But legalizing child prostitution will only incentivize the increased exploitation of underage girls. Immunity from arrest means law enforcement can't interfere with minors engaging in prostitution — which translates into bigger and better cash flow for the pimps. Simply put, more time on the street and less time in jail means more money for pimps, and more victims for them to exploit.
[We say, build that wall all around California and beg them to secede.]
It's California! What else would anyone expect? And Jerry Brown leading the charge. And Diane Feinstein praising their gun control efforts. It will be most interesting to see what their crime rates do.
This legislation undermines the existing rule of Law for those over 18, that prostitution was illegal at any age doesn't it? For them to start the legalization of this by its for the "children" is not a surprise .. for everything the Evil left agenda does ... is "for the children". They tout that it will not prosecute "children", but by its own measuring law stick ... it condemns them by their amoral behavior !!! Evil deceives, evil attempts to pervert the mind of the innocent, and the ignorant.
Remember that Evil uses temptation ... which only starts in the mind as thoughts that promise to make you feel better and are delivered first by the words that you speak or the action you take. So every temptation to do wrong is designed to kill you, steal from you, or destroy you the individual. Satan comes “Only to steal, kill and destroy” (John 10:10), and for no other reason. So the devil wants to destroy you & to destroy the Grace given ... by God. I'm not saying that Satan necessarily wants you to take your life ... but he will destroy your reputation, your credibility ... which is what prostitution DOES, and this law supports.
I guess if these illegal prostitution businesses are run by children, then I guess you can go down that road.
IMHO, these kids are victims. What are you expecting to do with kids once arrested? Add more governmental red tape and maybe forced incarceration? I'm sure a 12 year old is going to respect our government for their help whilst they sit in jail or even in the booking room. I know this is unusual, but maybe we should apply some reason to this, instead?
I joking stated to "jail them", since there were no comments, I guess that's acceptable here.
I guess we just need to jail them and be done with it.
Not at all. Once the "victims" are identified they need to be rehab'd away from these moral identified crimes. The "john's" who are getting the cash are the ones that we need to deal harsher with, and while its true that the we can follow the cash to them, removing the entanglements by not arresting the young prostitutes makes no common sense at all if your going to follow the money trail. In most cases where you have prostitutes you have drugs, thus it all leads to a drug trafficking flow for the prostitutes cash regardless of the sexes involved. It is our disregard for a moral society that is in the heart of the matter ... an underage "legally approved" evil.
There's going to be a really big earthquake in California in 2017.
Right Beth. This just lets those who force kids into prostitution off the hook. It's sure not about protecting kids from being arrested. That's just another smoke screen for illegal behavior by adults kidnapping and using kids.
I think it's just the opposite. As far as "those who force kids into prostitution off the hook", those penalties have not changed. The target here is to not arrest the KIDS, they want to take the operators off the streets.
Did any of you read the article? I guess I just don't understand the article, it didn't say to me anything like you are talking about. It's not an open door for child prostitution, the penalties to adults running this have not be changed. Just the kids won't be arrested. Please explain what I'm missing.
I assume then that you wish to arrest kids that have been victimized and get them involved in governmental bureaucracy as soon as possible. This sounds so un Republican and un American to me.
A most intriguing viewpoint. Thanks, Jack.
Of course saying anyone wants to arrest kids that have been victimized is ridiculous and might I add, insulting. I assume, perhaps wrongly, that you are being facetious. Perhaps you have not noticed the unintended consequences on some of these laws. This one, although I did not read the actual language of the law, seems to be loaded with unintended consequences.
