Its surprising how much you can accomplish if you don't care who gets the credit
The motto of the Arizona Republican Assembly is that we are the “Republican Branch of the Republican Party”© because we adhere to the principles that put grand in the Grand Old Party. Those principles include fiscal responsibility and taxation restraint. These two principles were violated by our state chairman when she endorsed and encouraged the enactment of two identical bills whose purpose is to increase the rate for sales taxes. Despite arguments to the contrary, the mere action of placing a measure on the ballot indicates support for that measure.
We hereby encourage our chairman to reconsider her position, under the assumption that her actions were the result of poor advice. Here are some reasons why.
Not necessary or advisable. In recent years we have experienced huge increases in funding for education. These include budget allocations of over 60%, support for Prop 123, and implementation of 20x2020. It is prudent and sound fiscal policy to wait and see the results of these funding increases before determining if more is needed.
A penny is not really a penny. Our rate of state sales taxation is at 5.6. If voters approve the provisions of either bill, then our rate of taxation will be 6.0, for a 7.14% increase, which is substantial.
Appeasement never works. Presenting a tax increase light to fight a tax increase heavy will not work. We are already hearing clamors from the education industry that this is too little, too late.
Bad message for 2020. It will be difficult for rank and file Republicans to be credible when supporting a Republican low tax philosophy when our state leader supports a tax hike.
All good arguments. Thank you! Stop tax increases, especially the $32 increase for VLT which should be repealed. With an unelected ADOT official empowered to increase the fee based on budget, we have no control to vote him out.

No more taxes! It's enough!
New AZ GOP Leadership seems to be in favor of supporting the Governors efforts to reach out to a new base of voters and this in effect isn't any different than Brewers bringing us Common Core and Obamacare, if this is what so many voted for at the state meeting I'm certain it's news to them. God Bless You; Clair Van Steenwyk
