Arizona Citizens Supporting Honest Representative Government At All Levels
[Editor: Like Senator Jon Kyle, whose seat he now holds, Flake will not run because he knows he cannot win. Better to not run than to risk being embarrassed. That means he is now free to stop pretending to go along with anything conservatives elected Trump to get done. Guess he will have to go home to Snowflake (partially named for his family). That does open the door to someone else to compete in that race. Let the positioning begin! ]
WASHINGTON — Republican Sen. Jeff Flake of Arizona will not run for re-election, saying Tuesday he wouldn’t embrace President Donald Trump to win next year’s Republican primary.
“Here’s the bottom line: The path that I would have to travel to get the Republican nomination is a path I’m not willing to take, and that I can’t in good conscience take,” Flake told The Arizona Republic.
He intends to detail his decision to retire on the Senate floor on Tuesday, the newspaper reported.
Will Allison, Flake’s campaign spokesman, confirms to CNN that he is not running.
His decision means Flake joins retiring Tennessee Sen. Bob Corker as an outspoken critic of Trump with nothing to lose in the year before 2018’s midterm elections.
Flake’s political fortunes suffered as a result of his long-running feud with Trump — including an anti-Trump tome Flake published over the summer. Private polls conducted by Republican and Democratic groups in Arizona, sources with those groups said, showed him on track to lose badly in next August’s Republican primary to challenger Kelli Ward.
His retirement is a double-edged sword for Trump’s White House: It opens the door for Flake to be replaced with a more supportive Republican. But his seat also now becomes a prime Democratic pick-up opportunity.
And it turns Arizona — once a Republican stronghold but increasingly competitive in recent elections — into perhaps the most important state in the 2018 midterms, with Flake’s seat now open and questions looming about Sen. John McCain’s long-term prognosis as he is treated for brain cancer.
Well, gooollllyyy! I can hardly wait for the scramble to fill that void. Could be almost anyone with a little name ID. Ducey? UGH! Robert Graham. Oh no please no! Jeff DeWit can no longer use the excuse about not wanting to be the third candidate. Let's see what he will do. Let's get behind ONE candidate who can WIN in the GENERAL.
I would very much like to see Jeff DeWit run.
NOW MORE THAN EVER WE NEED JEFF DE WIT TO STEP UP & RUN FOR THE SENATE.....HE CAN BEAT THE DEMONRAT WHEN NO ONE ELSE CAN IN MY OPINION....ANOTHER GUY WE NEED TO STAY OUT OF THIS RACE IS DEFINITELY ROBERT GRAHAM....WHAT A DISASTER THAT WOULD BE!!!!! AND THERE IS TALK OF HIM....YUK~ DE WIT IS WHAT WE WANT AND NEED!!!!!
This is, more than ever, going to pit that Marxist-Socialist, FAKE Veteran lover and rabid Open Borders and Illegal Alien Amnesty queen - Kystin Sinema - against any Republican/Independent candidate with an enormous amount of Soros and La Raza Funding. As for the Republican Candidate....McConnell will be pushing for an establishment brand and IMHO, that will be Ducey or Dewitt, both of whom President Trump can live with. This is going to be a drag out battle right through election day once the Candidates are finalized - and don't be surprised if there are 3. It's just great to see "the" Flake step aside and it will be even more interesting to see who he endorses. Now, Songbird McCain needs to put on some adult diapers and resign.
That's a good take on Ducey. I only mention his name as he is so entrenched and as the Governor, will carry more water for the McAmnesty crowd - which is what the GOP establishment wants. DeWitt was Trump's national and State "go to" guy - and would certainly get a Trump nod. there are competing factions in the State re the GOP and no one denies that. What do you say about the possibility of the demon-rat Sinema running? There has been a lot of noise from that corner. This is one race we need to follow closely if we don't want to get skunked. Regardless of who the Republican/GOPe/RINO pick is, that is who we need to support. The demon-rats in Arizona are very dangerous with their La RAZA connections and Funding.
Sinema IS running! She has filed.
Correct on Ducey. Owned and operated by John McCain. I think he will wait until McCain's replacement is appointed. if before 2020, the replacement only stays until the 2020 election. Or could be before the 2018 election. The appointee would have to run for that seat at the next statewide election so it would be at most a 2 yr term and then the regular election in 2024.
Michael, you forgot to mention Sinema's bi-sexuality which might prove she is confused about where she fits into the world. You make an interesting point about three candidates. Could be the kind of slap-down that would result in the strongest candidate taking on the confused democrat. Make no mistake, that confused dem can campaign. Word has it that Trump is willing to put in $10mil for DeWit in a primary. This will be a blood fight. Bring your boxing gloves.
How's 'bout DeWit vs. Ward in the primary? Whoever wins will end up with more state-wide name recognition, which is oh-so important to get votes from the uninformed masses (in both parties, sadly). But will McCain step up and openly and genuinely support a GOPer other than Flake, or will he just weasel around like he did when Trump took on Hilllary?
It is now time for Jeff Dewit to step up for this Senate Seat. He has what it takes to win. Please, we do not want Kyrsten Sinema or Robert Graham or any other Dem. to get this seat. Now is the time for action.
And another RINO bites the dust,
And another one down, and another one down .....
Just one more to go.
This is a Mid term coming up and they are usually quite low in their participation. All we have to do is get every Republican out to vote for both the primary and the General and keep our new County officials from stealing the election for the Democrats and we can fill this and likely the other senate seats with good guys for a long time if we choose carefully and don't quick stamp pretend conservatives like we have in the past. Sorry to say Kelli doesn't seem to have a good track record behind her for conservative issues and she has served in the Legislature recently. My pick would be Jeff DeWit. Trump needs a solid experienced financial conservative to help guide his policy in the Senate.
