Parraz is gathering his minions tomorrow at noon downtown in the lobby of the Wells Fargo building on Washington and 1st Ave. I think they plan to go to Sheriff Joe and demand his resignation.

Joanne -as always great response and explanation.  I also found the rest of Mr. Ashurst's am posting the second 1/2...apparently not enough room to post it all the first time..rec'd in an email from a friend.

This is not all south of the line. I could take you and show you businesses where checks and credit cards are not accepted and where very few customers walk through the door, yet the owners live in the largest mansions in town and drive very expensive cars. Could there be some money laundering going on? There are only two industries of any significance in Douglas, AZ: law enforcement (Douglas has one of the largest Border Patrol stations in America), and the illegal trafficking of drugs, people, etc. across the border. These two industries feed on each other, and the powers that be seem happy with the situation. Crooked politicians look good to the public when they clean up drunk driving and prostitution, until you find they own bars and whore houses south of the line. These things have happened!

But this, in my opinion, is only the beginning. Chapo Guzman who heads up the Sinaloa Cartel is a multibillionaire. This guy and others like him may be cruel and sinister people but they are also very smart businessmen. They are reaping profits off of the largest tax free unregulated business on the planet. They have so much cash they are befuddled what to do with it all. But they are going to figure it out.

There are rumors that Guzman is financing modern, state of the art feedlots and packing houses in Mexico with plans to overtake America as the Western hemisphere's leading beef producer. This is probably only a small part of his plans. Mexico is a nation rich in natural recourses. Petroleum is abundant and the corrupt Mexican government is in control of all of it. Pemex is the only gas station in town. Pemex, because of the incompetent Mexican government, is broke. Chapo Guzman is at war with the Mexican government and has dreams (not unrealistic) of controlling the entire nation. Think of all of Mexico's natural resources in the control of Chapo Guzman! He already has the most profitable business in the world - selling Marijuana to your next door neighbor. Think what he could do with a tax free unregulated strangle hold on a nation of poor people begging to work for practically nothing.

Do you think that Chapo Guzman and others like him haven't thought of all of this? Do you think that Guzman isn't laughing all the way to the bank as he watches the evening news and hears how the American Government proclaims that the situation on the border is under control? What is going on in northern Mexico is capitalism in its rawest form. They have an untaxed unregulated business making huge profits and they have no plans of closing up shop any time soon. We here in the U.S. are overtaxed, overregulated and being smothered by increasingly intrusive government that makes it hard to do business in a successful manner. You don't have to be rocket scientist to figure this one out.

This has nothing to do with being Republican or Democrat or Latino or White. It has everything to do with being right or wrong. I came from a long line of Democrats. My great uncle was a U.S. Senator for several decades. My grandfather was an attorney, and a Superior Court Judge. I have a 1939 copy of a Time Magazine with his picture when he ran as a Democrat for Congress. The only time in history the U.S deficit was paid off was by a Democrat - Andrew Jackson. John Kennedy announced nearly 50 years ago that America could put a man on the moon and in less than a decade we did it.

I am now a registered Republican, but I'm not a Democrat hater. But, how can the president of the "can do" nation of Andrew Jackson's and JFK's party say we can't seal the border? We conquered Adolph Hitler in World War II, but can't seal the border? We put a man on the moon but can't seal a leaking oil well in less than 90 days? While this is going on we tax and regulate American business with a vengeance that stifles the free market system that has made our country great. While Janet Napolitano announces the border is safer than ever, Chapo Guzman and others pack billions of American dollars south to invest in a tax free market with one of the largest cheap labor force on the planet at his disposal!

I challenge you to come to Douglas, AZ and drive east on the Geronimo Trail, or northeast on US Hwy 80 to places on the map like Chiracahua and Apache. Or go to Rodeo and Hatchita, NM. Go and search out the 5 biggest cattle ranches in the Apache, AZ area and ask them what they think. Go to Hidalgo County, N.M. and ask the ranchers and cowboys there what they are seeing and hearing. Ask the people who we do business with what they think of our opinions. I challenge you to ask the prominent people in this area, who work hard and pay taxes if they agree with Barack Obama or Ed Ashurst when it comes to what is really going on near the U.S.-Mexican border. Unlike Obama and others I don't have to be surrounded by sycophants to make a statement. I purposefully left out the names of those who helped me with my map and the data I collected when preparing for the Fox interview.

In closing I challenge you to look around to see if what I say is the truth. This isn't about a few Mexicans wandering around looking for a job. This is about American civilization going into a time of tremendous change - a building has foundations and walls, maybe the foundation of our country is still strong, I don't know, but the walls have certainly fallen down and the keepers of the house are out to lunch.

When you have time, we think you will want to read this.    Everyone living in AZ (and elsewhere) should know what is happening near our borders and near our homes.

Have a Blessed CHRISTmas

Cochise County covers several hundred square miles and has a total of 82 Sheriff's deputies to cover that area 24/7/365. Our deputies go over and above but they cannot be everywhere all the time.  The cartels have the most sophistocated communication networks on the planet. In most of the areas in the San Rafael Valley there are only land lines--hand held radio phones are the only communication tools that work "out in the field" in most places.

This was all supposed to be solved right after the last election when McCain, Kyl and Giffords blanketed that area with campaign promises to get cell phone tower in the area. Right after there were bills presented in House and Senate to put cell phone towers FOR THE BORDER PATROL all along the border.  By making it for the BP the Feds would fund it---or so it was believed.  NOT! The bill died in the Senate because neither McCain or Kyl needed the publicity any longer. McCain is good for 6 more years and Kyl had decided to quit. So much for promises.

Giffords was supposed to be the champion of the area and was going to finally once and for all solve the problem in that area.  When she was shot all concern of the area by her and her staff disappeared.   When she finally, supposedly, was able to comprehend her district info the issue was NOT including in anyone's priority.  Even after 345,000 acres burned because of illegals/cartels there has been no response from her office AT ALL.  It has been ceded to the drug cartels and woe be it for anyone who lives there--they are on their own.

One bright light, if you can call it that, in the NDAA there was a rider attached for communication towers in SE AZ added by Ted Poe from Texas and a Dem I can't remember, in the name of Gabby Giffords.  They just happened to remember that she was pushing for that a year ago before she was shot. How long that will take to go into effect is anyone's guess. Since it is AZ we already know that it is not high on Nappy's list of things to do.  They will probably not get cell service for another 2 years, if ever, since there is really no one with any real concern fighting for that area in Congress (whole other issue and I won't go there) or any where else---except by our Sheriff Larry Dever who is understaffed and underfunded when it comes to dealing with the border.

The purpose of the AZ Guard was specifically to put them on the border. Where is the funding that went with the legislation? Where are the Gov's plans to implement the State Guard?  What is Brewer waiting for??  Just another politican among many politicans who spout off when convenient to make the papers but actually DOING something,  nada.  Where are the State legislators that passed this??  Where is anyone who can get this going and where is their concern for the San Rafael Valley??  (No one important lives there so the questions are moot)

Comment by jfreden on January 2, 2012 at 10:16am

Sheriff Dever is amazing and is aware of the problem, and personally involved.  I suspect that it is an issue of manpower - we need wall to wall arm in arm on the border.  Letter writing, will do.  I've got the draft letter for a template.

Comment by Arizona Freedom Alliance on January 2, 2012 at 9:03am

Then start a letter writing campaign right away.  Write it to Gov Brewer AND to AG Tom Horne.  Why Horne?  He's the top law enforcement agent in the state.  Tell him you want local Sheriff's to protect those in rural areas.... it's the ONLY protection they can get and they aren't getting it from the Sheriff's!!!  Then send letters to those Sheriff's like Sheriff Larry Dever, Cochise County.

I have a friend in the Portal/Rodeo area.  She has experienced the same destruction.  The federal government will not do anything on either side of the political fence.  The Arizona legislature and the Governor MUST put state guard on the border!

thanks for the 'letter' and reminder - state guard.  Concur with Jim on the needs for 'state' versus national and supported and followed the bill last year.  Will write and call.

Comment by Charlene Hanson on December 30, 2011 at 11:07pm

I agree that our ranchers and US citizens should also have a phone line to Washington. It is against federal law to enter the U.S. without authorization. We need the State Guard on the border, and I have called Gov.Brewer's office on this subject and a letter to follow up.

Comment by American Pride on December 30, 2011 at 10:51pm

I received an email asking that we send letters of support for the state guard to Governor Brewer. It had the following sample letter attached...

The Honorable Janice K. Brewer

Arizona Governor

Executive Tower

1700 West Washington Street

Phoenix, AZ 85007

Reference: The Arizona State Guard

Dear Governor Brewer:

As a concerned citizen of Arizona I fully support the new legislation to stand up the Arizona State Guard and encourage you to do so. Never in our recent history has support of this legislation been so critical for the safety and security of the citizens of this great state than through the passage of this by our state legislators with your signature and full support.

The major reasons for asking your support is the ongoing cross-border criminal activity, rampant drug and human smuggling, human-rights violations and crossing of people with potential Mid-Eastern terrorist ties. These violations of US and state laws are costing the taxpayers millions of dollars we cannot afford and money that we don’t have. This is further compounded by Arizona being the only border state without a state guard. The lack of a state guard leaves a giant void for our state to counter a myriad of illegal acts perpetrated upon the citizens of this state.

The previous State Statute, 26-174 and last session legislation SB 1495 did not sufficiently meet the organizational and functional requirements to effectively stand up a state guard. While we commend your signature of SB 1495 last spring, the new proposed legislation mirrors some of the same laws of the twenty-two other states which have state guards. In closing, I trust your needed support for this new legislation.

Jim - thanks, that is probably what the email referred to.  I remember the bill, remember tracking it...what can I say it has been almost a doubt a senior moment!
